David Zaslav, the head of Warner Bros Discovery (WBD), expressed pride in his studio's performance at the Oscars, which saw WBD win 11 Oscars including Best Picture and five others for One Battle After Another, four Oscars with Sinners including Best Actor for Michael B. Jordan and Best Original Screenplay for Ryan Coolger. Zasslav also expressed his gratitude for Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy, who all three films were originals. This was a significant night of triumph for original filmmaking without setting foot at a film festival. Sean Penn, who won Best Supporting Actor for Sinners, also won Best Actress for Hamnet, and was absent from the awards ceremony. Despite some controversy over a controversial deal that allowed creative ownership of Sinners with rights reverted to the filmmaker after 25 years, DeLuca and Abdy were not worried about the future of WBD.
