Kankakee lawmaker battling through cancer

Danita Grant Swanson, a Kankakee City Council member and CEO of the 2 Rivers Area Credit Union, has been diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer. Despite her diagnosis, she has remained committed to her work and role in politics. She has maintained her presence at city council meetings and committee meetings despite her cancer diagnosis. She believes in the power of prayer and is a great believer in positive thinking. Despite the diagnosis, Mayor Chris Curtis and her seatmate, Lance Marczak, have both praised her tenacity and determination. Despite being diagnosed with breast cancer in May 2018, Grant Swanson continues to take a daily medication called lbrance to prevent cancer cells from dividing, growing and spreading.
