Netgear, Adtran earn exceptions from FCC's router ban

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has granted exemptions to many of Netgear's routers and Adtran's service routers. This follows a rule that restricts the sale of foreign-made products in the US due to concerns that they pose unacceptable risks to national security and the safety of U.S. persons. The decision effectively ended the development of new consumer routers without approval by the FCC, and also restricted updated firmware. Netgear has traditionally manufactured its routers overseas, so the FCC granted an exception in its case.
