Several major Chinese automakers are beginning testing solid-state batteries in vehicles, with some claiming to achieve over 800 miles of driving range. Major Chinese automakers, including BYD and CATL, plan to begin small-scale production in 2027. Dongfeng Motors, which operates at a significant energy density of 350 Wh/kg, has announced its prototype battery with a range of over 1,000 km (620 miles) under CLTC conditions. Changan Automobile plans to begin trial installations before Q3 2026 with its "Golden Bell" all-solid-state battery. Chery, another leading Chinese car manufacturer, is set to reveal its progress at a "Battery Night" launch event on March 18. While China aims to maintain its lead on the global market with new battery chemistries, other countries are racing to bring the promising new battery tech to market.
