ODU shooter faced similar charges to suspect in Durham federal ISIS case

The suspect in the Old Dominion University shooting, Mohamed Jalloh, had previously been convicted of attempting to aid ISIS and was set to be released in 2024. The charges were brought against Alexander Justin White, a 29-year-old from Durham, who was reportedly radicalized online but was caught by the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Force. Former U.S. Attorney Michael Easley Jr. prosecuted the case and explained how White was caught using confidential informants and undercover operations. The penalty for attempting to materially aid a terrorist group is up to 20 years in prison. The Durham suspect, who pleaded guilty to the same crime, is also facing up to20 years.
