Aurora man sentenced to 105 years for woman’s 2024 murder

Travares O. Mitchell, an Aurora man, has been sentenced to 105 years in prison for the 2024 fatal shooting of his former domestic partner, Serhonda Burnett, 46. Mitchell was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder and being an armed habitual criminal, a felony. He must serve 100% of the 80-year sentence for murder and 85% for the 25-year for being an unlawful habitual criminal. The sentences must be served consecutively. Police Chief Matt Thomas praised the multi-agency efforts involved in the investigation, highlighting the role modern technology plays in identifying and locating offenders.
