A bill requiring a daily moment of silence in Idaho public schools has passed both chambers of the Legislature and is now headed to the governor. The bill, sponsored by Rep. Bruce Skaug, would require schools to provide at least 60 seconds of silence at or near the start of each school day, allowing students to reflect, meditate, pray, or engage in another silent activity. Supporters argue the measure is a noncontroversial tool to improve focus and well-being in classrooms and is not religious in nature. Opposition has largely focused on constitutional concerns and skepticism about its intent. If signed into law, the law would take effect in 2026.
