A report by advocacy group Children's Defense Fund-Ohio has revealed a detailed report on gun violence in Ohio, highlighting regional and racial disparities in the state. The report, which combines state and national data from 2025 with firsthand accounts from families impacted by gun violence, gathered input from communities across Ohio. It found that while firearm-related deaths impact children statewide vary widely, in urban areas, child gun deaths are more often homicides. It also highlighted racial disparities, with Black children disproportionately victims of gun-related homicides and white children more likely to die by suicide. The study also highlighted the widespread emotional trauma of gun violence and the high school firearm death rates among children. It recommended several policy recommendations, including mandating safe firearm storage, expanding background checks, increasing mental health screenings, and investing in local violence intervention programs. The researchers also suggested better coordination across prevention efforts statewide.
