China’s DeepSeek unveils latest model a year after upending global tech

China's DeepSeek has unveiled two preview versions of its signature artificial intelligence-powered chatbot, Deepseek-V4-Pro and DeepSeeking-V5-Fl. The company claims that the pro version beats all rival open models for maths and coding and only trails only Google's Gemini 3.1-Pro for world knowledge. The flash version offers faster response times and more cost-effective pricing. This comes a year after the launch of the flagship model, which was hailed as "AI's Sputnik moment" by prominent Silicon Valley venture capitalist Marc Andreessen. The launch of DeepSeep-R1 led to bans in several countries due to privacy and national security concerns.
