Seattle Mayor Katie Wilson and members of the Seattle City Council have passed a joint resolution supporting the return of the NBA team, stating that the city is ready to welcome the Sonics home. The resolution affirms Seattle's readiness to host the team's return and affirms the city's commitment to working with the NBA and regional partners to return the SuperSonics to Seattle. It also highlights the “world-class” Climate Pledge Arena, a strong economy, deep labor partnerships, and a deeply-rooted basketball culture. This resolution comes as the NBA board of governors votes to expand the league from 30 teams to 32 teams. The final vote is expected to be at the end of 2026.
