Cox Communications not liable for pirated music, Supreme Court rules

The Supreme Court has ruled that Cox Communications is not liable for pirated music, despite several record labels suing the company for allowing 60,000 internet subscribers to download over 10,000 copyrighted songs illegally. The unanimous decision stated that Cox "neither induced its users' infringement nor provided a service tailored to infringe." Other ISPs, including AT&T and Verizon, supported Cox, arguing that the court's decision could burden internet service providers with responsibility for almost all acts of infringement. The Recording Industry Association of America expressed disappointment at the Court's decision, calling for a review of the case.
