The US government has opened two new trade investigations, focusing on whether government subsidies have created excess industrial capacity that harms U.S. manufacturers and major trading partners. The investigations will also examine policies related to the European Union, China, Japan, and South Korea. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget warns that the federal debt could reach $58 trillion if spending continues at its current pace. Public hearings are set for May 5 and a second on forced labor concerns are scheduled for April 28.
