Massachusetts Senate President Karen Spilka has endorsed a proposal to end the twice-yearly clock change known as daylight saving. The proposed bill, filed by State Senator John Keenan, would eliminate the clock changes and establish a permanent, consistent time system in the Bay State. Studies have shown that daylight saving time can increase heart attacks and strokes after it begins, leading to an increase in car accidents. The legislation has been reviewed by the Committee on Rules and is awaiting a vote on the Senate floor. If passed, Massachusetts would join Hawaii and Arizona as the only other states to observe standard time.
