Beyond the chatbot: At GeekWire summit, AI leaders say the era of autonomous agents is already here

At GeekWire's Agents of Transformation summit in Seattle, AI leaders believe the era of autonomous agents is over, with speakers from Microsoft, Amazon Web Services, OpenAI and others suggesting that the biggest obstacle is redesigning work processes and organizations built without the technology. Charles Lamanna, Microsoft's executive vice president of Business Applications & Agents, warned against creating new metrics for AI, which he sees as a distraction from business outcomes. Julia White, CMO of Amazon, said her biggest challenge is unlearning much of the rules of marketing and rethinking one-to-one marketing at scale. Successful AI transformations share two traits: broad access to tools across the workforce and a small handful of high-priority projects tracked from the top down. Companies with 250 “Gen AI projects” are a red flag, not a success story.
