The Friends of Harriman State Park have expressed commitment to protecting the park and its public purpose following the passage of Senate Bill 1300, which would require the directors of the Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation, Idaho Fish and Game, and the Idaho Transportation Department to be appointed by the Governor, subject to Senate confirmation. The bill is currently being voted by a bipartisan committee and could potentially impact the park's public purpose. An attorney representing Thomas Dixon, the grandson of E. Roland and Gladys Harrimans, stated that the bill would violate an agreement made with the state of Idaho when the property was donated in 1961. The sponsor of the bill, Sen. Doug Okuniewicz, stated there is "zero risk" of violating the agreement with the Harrimanian family.
