The Las Vegas Review-Journal has criticized the Clark County School District (CCSD) for not participating in the Nevada Interscholastic Activities Association (NIAA) for its decision to abandon the NIAA, which allows only a handful of Southern Nevada private and charter schools to compete for state titles. The district has not been transparent about this decision, with some high schools choosing not to play against Bishop Gorman, a private school that has long dominated Nevada football. The move deprives hundreds of students of competing for a state championship and could lead to changes in the district's transfer policy on students moving from public charter schools. The Review Journal has called for an explanation from the district and its principals and coaches for their decision. The community should hold community feedback meetings about the district’s vision of becoming a Destination District.
