The episode three of "Dark Winds" has been highlighted the unpredictability of Irene Vaggan's character, Irene Viggan, in the third episode of the show's season four episode, "Ahááldláádígíí". The episode three saw the Navajo Tribal Police trying to keep runaway teenager Billie (Isabel DeRoy-Olson) safe while her runaway mother, Isabel DeRoy Olson, makes matters even more difficult when she takes matters into her own hands. Meanwhile, Bernadette (Jessica Matten) and Chee's relationship is tested as they discover a hole in the home of their cousin's grandfather, Albert, indicating that someone has died inside, a "death hogan" where it is taboo to enter. Chee is also experiencing unexpected symptoms after entering the hogan where his cousin's cousin Albert died. The showrunner, John Wirth, expressed excitement to bring some focus on the character of Jim Chee, who is battling his inner demons and struggles with his relationship with Joe Leaphorn.
