The Netherlands' parliament approved a motion seeking to ban the Muslim Brotherhood and other related organizations on March 17 after opposition parties ChristenUnie and 50PLUS relented. The motion cited a French report alleging that the Brotherhood intended to impose Sharia law on the country, but opposition parties argued that the group was not a significant threat to the Netherlands' political system. The Muslim Brotherhood has been outlawed as a terrorist group by Egypt and Saudi Arabia and was banned by Jordan in April 2025. The U.S. State Department designated Muslim Brotherhood chapters in Lebanon, Jordan and Egypt as terrorists after President Donald Trump issued an executive order targeting them.
