Subway and other fast-food chains are fighting to prove they're still affordable

Subway has launched its first-ever value menu, marking the first time in its more than 60-year history that it has offered one in its history. The Fresh Value Menu includes 15 entrees under $5, including deli-style sandwiches and protein wraps. This move reflects a shift in how fast-food chains are selling deals to win back cost-conscious customers. McDonald's recently expanded its McValue platform with a new Under $3 menu and a $4 breakfast deal, while Wendy's introduced a Biggie Deals menu with price tiers from $4 to $8. Furthermore, fast-casual chains like Panera have also launched a first-of-evaluation value menu. As diners decrease spending, expect more chains to compete on what feels "worth it" rather than what's cheapest.
