South Africa's top police officer, Fannie Masemola, has appeared in court in relation to an alleged $21 million ($21 million) contract that was irregularly awarded. The scandal has resulted in the arrest of at least 12 senior police officers and the dismissal of the contract by the police. The charges relate to Masemol's role as the accounting officer for the police service and he could face up to five years in prison or a fine if found guilty.
