The United States has sunk an Iranian ship by a torpedo for the first time in over 80 years, according to Secretary of War Pete Hegseth. The incident occurred in the Indian Ocean off the coast of Sri Lanka. The Joint Chiefs of Staff Chairman Gen. Dan Caine praised the operation as an incredible demonstration of America's global reach. The ship was named for Gen. Qasem Soleimani, who led the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps until 2020. At least 80 people were killed in the incident.
