The Trump Ocean Resort Baja Mexico, a failed project in Baja California, has been subject to numerous lawsuits over the past 20 years and over 10 years. The site of the failed project is now largely covered in mud. Following the Baja fiasco, Donald Trump began investing in two failed projects in Mexico, including a 526-unit luxury condo-hotel at Punta Bandera. The project was abandoned in 2009 after the developers failed to secure a construction loan from German bank WestLB. However, once lawsuits were filed, Trump had only licensed his name for the project and received a reported $500,000 for his branding and promotional efforts. The 2008 global financial crisis that decimated housing markets has often been cited as a leading cause for the failure of the project.
