Infrastructure strikes in Iran war escalate global energy crisis

Strikes on infrastructure amid the Iran conflict are exacerbating a global energy crisis, exacerbating tight energy supplies and high gas prices. The strikes have significantly impacted prices in Europe and Asia, with Ira Joseph, global fellow at Columbia University’s Center on Global Energy Policy, stating that it could be potentially recessionary if this lasts for a significant period of time. Israel attacked Iran's South Pars gas field on Wednesday, and Iran targeted natural gas infrastructure in Qatar and the UAE. The strike knocked out 17 percent of Qatar's export capacity and could impact global supply. The Dutch gas benchmark TTF has nearly doubled since the start of the conflict, with prices up 17 percent since Monday. However, American consumers are expected to be relatively insulated.
