Former national security adviser, John Bolton, has questioned whether the US and Iran are close to reaching a long-term peace deal. This comes as the two countries prepare for another round of indirect talks in Pakistan. Special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner are expected to depart for Islamabad on Saturday. Vice President Vance, who led the initial round of renewed talks two weeks ago, will be on standby. Bolton believes the sides are far apart on issues such as the fate of Tehran's nuclear program and reopening the Strait of Hormuz. He also criticizes President Trump's decision to extend a temporary ceasefire with Iran indefinitely, arguing it could give the regime time to recover and prepare for the next phase of the conflict.
