Manchester United strengthened their chances of securing a top-four place in the Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Aston Villa. Goals from Casemiro, Matheus Cunha and Benjamin Sesko secured the win for United, taking them to 54 points after 30 games. However, Liverpool lost points in a home draw with Tottenham Hotspur, moving into fifth place with 49 points. Tottenham's victory over Tottenham ended their six-game losing streak. Nottingham Forest moved out of the relegation zone on goal difference, while Leeds managed a 0-0 draw at Crystal Palace. Manchester United's interim manager, Michael Carrick, faced questions about his future as manager.
