The first photos of the March 3 total lunar eclipse are already being shared online, with photographers in America and Oceania capturing both partial and spectacular blood moon phases. While the event has ended, the incredible spectacle is still unfolding across North America, with Earth's shadow transforming the full moon into a dramatic blood moon. The first images were taken by Mirko Harnisch and the Dunedin Astronomical Society, who also captured a view of the lunar disk as it hung over New Zealand during totality. The total eclipse will end at 9:23 a.m. EST (1423 GMT) when the outer part of Earth's umbral shadow departs the lunar disks.
