London startup Epoch Biodesign has raised $12 million to move from pilot production to a demonstration-scale facility. The company uses AI-engineered enzymes to break nylon 6,6 waste back into its original monomers, recovering over 90% and removing the need for virgin petroleum feedstock. The funding round was led by lululemon, with participation from Extantia, Happiness Capital, KOMPAS VC, Leitmotif, and others. This brings Epoch's total funding past $50 million. The process uses enzymes sourced from industrial suppliers that already produce them at scale. Epoch’s process can handle mixed inputs, which are difficult to address due to the vast majority of discarded textiles being blended.
