Environmental groups and states are suing the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) over its decision to roll back the "endangerment finding," which allows the EPA to regulate motor vehicle greenhouse gas emissions. The decision has been met with opposition from various parties, including 24 Democratic-majority states, D.C., the U.S. Virgin Islands, and 12 cities and counties. New York Attorney General Letitia James led a coalition of cities, counties, and states to fight back. The EPA argues it does not have the statutory authority to regulate greenhouse gases. The case is likely to be heard before the Supreme Court, which will make a final ruling on whether the EPA can regulate such emissions.
