Memorial, walk planned in honor of Monrovia bear euthanized by wildlife officials

A memorial and peace walk is planned for Saturday for the mother bear, Blondie, who was euthanized by state wildlife officials in Monrovia, California. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife designated her as a threat to public safety after she swiped at a woman's leg and scratched a man on his porch last year. Despite pleas from the city council and over 3,800 people who signed a petition to save the bear's life, the state wildlife department confirmed its decision to euthanize the bear. The orphaned cubs will be raised in a wildlife facility until they can care for themselves in the wild. Despite the city's desire for the bear to be relocated into the Angeles National Forest, the decision was already made, according to city manager Dylan Feik.
