New York City leftists are pushing to abolish the police's "Criminal Group Database" under Democratic Mayor Zohran Mamdani, despite increased threats. The database has been documenting alleged gang activity since 2013 and has been linked to 65% of the city's shootings. Despite previously supporting the abolition of the database, Mammani has since changed his stance and is in talks with the NYPD about reforming the tool. The far-left factions that helped elect Mamdagnas consider the Criminal Group Database racist and want it not be a tool for immigration agents to track migrants. The bill currently has 19 lawmakers co-sponsoring out of 51, and could be overruled by Mammagnani with a two-thirds vote.
