'We can't justify a £52 lunch': Middle-income families cut back on days out

The cost of meals and activities have led to middle-income families in the UK to cut back on luxuries due to rising costs. Bianca and Paul Osborne, part of a trend that sees middle-class families cutting back on life's luxuries. The Osborne family, who earn close to the UK national average household income of £55,000, said they struggle to find the right reasons to go out due to the cost of living and that once they've paid the bills, there isn't much left over. Panorama offered to pay for a family day out, adding up the cost. The Osbornes, from Bredbury in Stockport, experienced a three-course meal with their children and a trip to the aquarium costing £32 and £32, plus £15 for two photos. Despite the increase in costs such as National Insurance, Sea Life owners said they strive to keep attractions fairly priced and review pricing. The cost of food and drink is also increasing, with official figures showing a 2.7% fall in eating out in particular in January, with restaurants suffering from low wages and businesses struggling with inflation. The pressure on family finances is also affecting hospitality.
