He believes that it is possible to remove a person's entire head, brain, and all from their diseased body and attach it to the body of a healthy but brain-dead donor, or clone. The procedure, which costs upwards of $100 million and requires a surgical team of 80, is controversial due to its high profile and high-profile nature. Critics argue that it's impossible to reconnect the spinal cord and restore function. Canavero's work has led to job losses, forced relocation from Italy to China, and he remains defiant.
