Kevin Johnson, a retired educator and blood cancer patient, has written a column for the Governor of Virginia, urging him to take action against the issue of health care affordability. He argues that even with health insurance coverage, lifesaving treatment can be out of reach due to unpredictable and often unaffordable out-of-pocket costs. Two bills proposed by Gov. Abigail Spanberger would allow patients to choose health insurance plans with transparent, flat-dollar copays for prescription drugs, allowing patients to clearly state what they will pay at the pharmacy counter. However, the broader goal of this article is to ensure that patients across the commonwealth can focus on healing instead on how to pay for it.
