Texas is facing one of the nation's worst shortages of mental health care care, according to Mental Health America. Governor Greg Abbott has announced that the state will award $5 million in grants to expand forensic psychiatry fellowship programs at medical schools across the state. The grants will support these programs, which aim to train more specialists who work at the intersection of the mental health and legal systems. The funding will be administered by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and will help medical institutions develop or expand accredited one-year forensic psychiatry programs for licensed physicians.
