Matthew Leavitt's comedic drama, "Sukkot," has been performed at 59E59 Theaters in New York. The play follows the death of the family matriarch, Sharon, forcing the family to confront issues long hidden or not seen. Patrick (Andy Robinson), a recently retired college professor, constructs a sukkah (a hut-like structure) in his backyard for his three grown children to live, eat, and sleep together during the Jewish holiday of Sukkot. Each child has their own emotional baggage, with Asher (Jonathan Slavin), Mairead (Liza Seneca), and Natalie Lander (Natalie Lander), dealing with a troubled marriage and raising two young children. The use of the Sukkoot holiday provides a refreshing hook for the play, with no one in the family being Jewish.
