Save The Crew inspires national bill to keep teams local

The Home Team Act, introduced in the U.S. House, would require professional sports teams to give local communities a chance to buy the team before relocating. This move was inspired by the Save The Crew movement, which successfully prevented the move of the Columbus Crew to Austin in 2017. The bill would mirror an Ohio law that required owners who accepted public funds to provide six months' notice for a move and allow local buyers to purchase the team at a fair and reasonable price. However, in a Republican-controlled House, this bill is unlikely to progress.
