Google has launched the Fitbit Air with Gemini AI health coach and added on-demand video consultations with licensed clinicians to its app. Meanwhile, Whoop added video consultation with licensed clinicians. Both companies believe that artificial intelligence can interpret your health data, while Whoop believes that you still need a doctor. The US Food and Drug Administration recently relaxed its oversight of both AI health tools and consumer wearables. Google's strategy is to sell the AI layer on top of the data. The Fitbit is designed to be wearable-agnostic, with planned support for Apple Watch, Oura, and Garmin devices later this year. Whoop's announcement came one day after Google's. The premium tier includes the Google Health Coach, an AI assistant built on Gemini that generates personalised workout plans, interprets sleep trends, and answers questions about a user's fitness and medical data.
