British Prime Minister Keir Starmer defended NATO after President Trump suggested that the US might reconsider its membership once the conflict with Iran concludes. Starmer insisted that NATO is the most effective military alliance the world has ever seen and insisted that the UK is committed to the British national interest. This comes as Trump has become increasingly frustrated with European allies over their reluctance to deploy military assets to secure the Strait of Hormuz, a critical maritime chokepoint that transports about one-fifth of the world's oil supply. The president also criticised the Royal Navy for not being up for policing the strait.
