Franciscan Alliance is planning to open an osteopathic medical school in Crown Point, Indiana, with the first class set to begin in 2030. The nonprofit Catholic healthcare system is also developing plans to expand the number of post-graduate residency slots in Indiana by over 250. The initial class size will be 100 medical students, with enrollment increasing each year to 200 students each year. The medical school will eventually reach a total enrollment of 800 students. The move comes as Indiana is experiencing a shortage of physicians, particularly in the primary care specialty and rural areas.
