Sens. Roger Wicker (R-Miss.) and Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) have raised concerns about the visit by Russian lawmakers who visited the US Capitol Building last month. The lawmakers, including Vyacheslav Nikonov, were sanctioned for engaging in conduct deemed to be harmful to U.S. national security and were led by a member of the Russian State Duma. The senators accused the delegation of coming to the US to advance Kremlin's strategic aims and provide useful intelligence. They also noted that in 2023, Nikonov had referred to the United States and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization as the "Fourth Reich" on Russian television. They called on Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to answer questions about the sanctions.
