Kansas veteran reflects on over two decades of service

Tulsa native Larry Butler served in two branches of the military for over two decades. He joined the Army National Guard in 1985 and worked as a recruiter’s assistant at McConnell Air Force Base for four years. After a five-year break from service, Butler returned to the Army in 1996 and rejoined the National Guard. He was deployed to Iraq in 2004 and served as a gunner during his two tours, but remembered his teammates' sacrifice. Despite retiring in 2012, Butler credits his community in Newton, Kansas, for being a respected veteran.
