Norwegian filmmaker Joachim Trier has revealed that he introduced the idea of the family home as another character in his film, "Sentimental Value," a character study of two sisters (Agnes Reinsve and Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas) who are trying to reconnect with their estranged director father, Stellan Skarsgård, as he prepares to cast a rising American star in a feature film. The film follows a period of 130 years, with Trier describing the house as a key to understanding a larger perspective on time and the family story. He also revealed that when he was 11, he accidentally started a house fire that sparked his imagination. Trier credits the house montage to an essay written by his oldest daughter, Nora, which reveals her family's past and their struggle to reconcile with their parents.
