Rapper MF DOOM's signature mask, known as DOOM, has become an iconic symbol within hip-hop and has been identified as an icon within the underground scene. The mask came from the movie Gladiator and was altered to suit suitability for the character of DOOM. In an interview with journalist David Ma, DOOM stated that he used the mask to differentiate himself from other characters and create a different perspective from which he could rap. He also revealed that his friend altered the mask so it could be worn comfortably and that it was more compelling to sell something else entirely without coming off as fake.
