St. Louis voters have approved the renewal of the city's 1% earnings tax, a levy on earned income for anyone living or working in the city. The tax has been in place since 1954 and has been voted on every five years since 2011. The earnings tax supports essential city services such as police, firefighters, street repairs, and maintenance of parks, museums, and the Gateway Arch.
