London-based arthouse streamer Mubi lost 200,000 subscribers in the wake of a Palestine-related PR storm last year, but rebounded with a record number of subscribers and Oscar-nominated films. The company lost $7.3 million on some $200 million of revenue. This year, Mubi had nearly 1.2 million subscribers, fewer than at the start of 2025, and expanded its reach to new countries and released more films in theaters. However, this year's growth was controversial as Sequoia Capital, an investor for Mubi's left-leaning subscribers, filmmakers and employees, backed startups that work with Israel's military. Despite this controversy, CEO Efe Cakarel defended the partnership and stated that Mubi plans to expand its slate and expand to Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe.
