Europe is facing a "global stress test" as jet fuel imports from the Middle East have been largely eliminated due to the Iran war. The continent's daily demand of about 1.6 million barrels of jet fuel is largely met through domestic production, but the additional 500,000 barrels is met via imports. This supply has largely dried up since the Strait of Hormuz shipping channel effectively shut after the U.S.-Iran conflict started. While jet fuel remains available, it is insufficient to replace supplies traditionally imported by Europe from the Gulf. The U.K. is emerging as a key source for Europe, with global exports soaring to a record 442,000 barrel a day in early April. The International Energy Agency has warned that Europe could run out of fuel within weeks. Analysts also suggest that airlines may need to pass on the cost of fuel to consumers.
