Afghan Dad Who Fought Alongside U.S. Military Dies Hours Into ICE Custody

Mohammad Nazeer Paktyawal, a father of six who served alongside the U.S. military in Afghanistan, died less than 24 hours after being detained by federal immigration agents outside his home in the Dallas area. The 41-year-old man was taken into custody by multiple agents with U.,S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). He complained of shortness of breath and chest pains and was admitted to Parkland Hospital on Friday night, but was declared dead after multiple lifesaving efforts. A medical investigation into his death is ongoing. The asylum-seeker's family has called for a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding his detention and death.
