The deadline for Virginia Gov. Abigail Spanberger to sign, amend or veto legislation passed by the General Assembly was 11:59 p.m. Monday. She signed dozens of bills into law, but also made significant changes to major Democratic priority legislation. She has proposed amendments to legislation that would allow public sector employees to collectively bargain, including a delay on collective bargaining for local government employees until 2030. Other amendments include a requirement to lock up firearms in homes with kids to include gun locks in the definition of safely stored. Additionally, she is proposing amendments to a bill that would permit employers to grant paid sick leave, one hour for every 30 hours worked, and clarify the implementation of a paid family and medical leave insurance program. These amendments would protect the use of certain semi-automatic shotguns for hunting.
