Raleigh City Farm, a nonprofit farm near downtown Raleigh, has been growing since its founding in 2011 and is now helping to meet food insecurity needs around the city. The farm, which operates on a 1.3-acre corner lot near Blount Street, will produce produce from strawberries, mulberries, wildflowers, and vegetables such as kale, arugula, eggplant, tomatoes, and peppers. Over half of the produce will be sold during the weekly "pay what you can" farmstands from April to October. The remaining 10,000 pounds of food grown each year will be distributed to community partners focused on food insecurity around Raleigh. Lisa Grele Barrie, executive director for the farm, estimates that nearly 3,000 volunteers will contribute to the farm's upkeep. The nonprofit farm will commemorate its 15th anniversary with a free community event and a partnership with the city of Raleigh.
