Federal authorities have arrested eight people in California, including three nurses, a chiropractor and a psychologist, accused of bilking taxpayers out of millions in health care fraud. The suspects, who allegedly ran sham hospice facilities that recruited beneficiaries who were not terminally ill, all face federal charges. The raids were part of a broader effort to address California's health care system's ongoing issues. The US Attorney's Office is also investigating Dr. Fariba Javaherian, a dermatologist associated with 63 hospice institutions across California and billed Medicare more than $35 million in 2025. The arrests follow a California Post investigation into suspected doctors driving tens of millions of questionable billing in California's hospice system.
